oap.jpgA new computer programme can rejuvenate old peoples’ memories by up to ten years, research has shown.

In the study, more than 500 men and women over 65 were asked to get to grips either with the brain-sharpening software or a more conventional educational programme.

Both groups showed improvement after 40 hours, but those using the £200 Brain Fitness training programmes performed the best, reports the Daily Mail.

Their brains processed information more than twice as quickly as before and 80-year-olds were thinking at the speed of people in their thirties.

A spokesman for Posit Science, which developed the software, said: “The study proves that cognitive decline is not inevitable and irreversible.

“Just as every adult can benefit from physical exercise, every adult can benefit from the right kind of cognitive fitness as well.”
