Computers can make you fat – and not just from lack of exercise.
Research shows that staring at a computer screen makes us work up an appetite for sweet treats like chocolate cake and biscuits.
It is thought that the mental stress of computer work triggers changes in blood sugar and hormone levels that trick the brain into thinking it has worked off lots of calories that need replaced.
Computer games and TV watching have the same effect, the International Congress on Obesity in Stockholm heard.
Researcher Jean-Philippe Chaput suggests that office workers who want to keep trim should take regular screen breaks – and even consider typing while standing up.
Dr Chaput, of the University of Copenhagen, started to research the subject after noticing how is supervisor regularly snacked on chocolate biscuits when doing computer work.

Lindsay Lohan swapped her designer duds and barely there bikinis for a regular, prison regulation orange jumpsuit yesterday when she checked into Lynwood Correctional Institute for women.
But the troubled starlet gave us one last glimpse of the scantily clad body we’ll have to do without in a sexy photo shoot for Complex magazine.
Lohan posed for famed photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani (who claimed she enjoyed a lesbian relationship with the starlet) back in May.
Wrapped in nothing more than a towel, and gazing through messy hair, Jennifer Aniston pulls her very best seductress expression.
Following on from her ’showmance’ with The Bounty Hunter co-star Gerard Butler, it seems the actress is hoping her attractive figure will once again encourage her fans to spend their money.
But this time it isn’t a romantic comedy she’s promoting. Like pop star Kylie before her, the actress has branched out and launched her very own perfume – Lolavie.

Calls to ban trans-fats from all foods in the UK have been backed by US public health experts.
Trans-fats – solid fats found in margarines, cakes and fast food – are banned in some countries.
An editorial in the British Medical Journal said 7,000 deaths a year could be prevented by a 1% reduction in consumption.
But the Food Standards Agency said the UK’s low average consumption made a complete ban unnecessary.

They are divided by geography and share no family link.
But Claire Horner, Cheryl Richards and Cathy Sidaway are united by a very special bond: they have joined forces to have a baby.
After battling breast cancer three times, Mrs Horner’s dearest wish was to have a baby brother or sister for her four-year-old son, Jack.
But doctors warned her and husband Dennis that she should not fall pregnant again as it could raise the risk of the cancer returning.
So in a remarkable case Miss Sidaway donated her eggs, which were fertilised using Mr Horner’s sperm and Mrs Richards agreed to act as a surrogate to carry the baby.

Arriving on the set of her new film Just Go With It in Los Angeles this week, Jennifer Aniston looked a decade younger than her 41 years.
Her stunning cream dress had men drooling and women asking: ‘How on earth does she do it?’
Perhaps it was a message for her recent co-star Gerard Butler, who was this week linked to a French TV presenter, despite rumours he and Jen are an item.
Some might argue that her fifth decade has seen Jennifer transform from the girl next door into a true screen beauty – she is nothing like the slightly frumpy girl we first saw playing Rachel Green in Friends in 1994.
Now, 16 years, two reported nose jobs, two stone lighter, and many personal trainers later, she is the woman all women want to look like. Here’s how.
