A measure of Cameron Diaz’s popularity among her peers could be drawn from the A-list turnout as she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 22 June 2009.
The actress, dressed in a white dress, red belt and matching shoes, looked thrilled as she posed with her family at the unveiling ceremony in front of the Egyptian Theatre.
But lending the occasion an extra special air were Cameron’s Vanilla Sky co-star Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes, who turned up to cheer her on with fellow Charlie’s Angel Lucy Liu.
The 36-year-old later paid an emotional tribute to her father Emilio, who passed away suddenly last year – dedicating her success to ‘the eternal love my mum and dad shared’.
‘It was what has given me the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life and it is what powers the light that burns inside of me, bright enough for me to be honoured today with this star on the Walk of Fame,’ she said.
Her latest film My Sister’s Keeper premieres in the US this week.
Her father’s unexpected death last April from pneumonia at the age of 58 occurred as she was nearing the end of filming.
Nick Cassavetes, who directed her in My Sister’s Keeper, spoke at the ceremony calling Cameron the perfect Hollywood actress.
He said: ‘If you were to build a Hollywood actress, you should look at Cameron Diaz.’
‘She’s beautiful, talented, she can make you laugh. But more importantly, she shows up prepared, she knows what she’s doing, she works hard and even more than that, she’s kind and she takes time with every single person on the film crew.’
Although Cameron’s Charlie’s Angels co-star Lucy Liu showed up to lend her support, third angel Drew Barrymore, who was once a close friend, was not at the ceremony.
Over her career, the actress has received four Golden Globe nominations for her performances in There’s Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, Vanilla Sky and Gangs Of New York.![]()
In My Sister’s Keeper, adapted from Jodi Picault’s best-selling book, she plays the mother of a daughter (Abigail Breslin) conceived as a genetic match for her older sister (Sofia Vassilieva) who suffers from leukaemia.
