It may be possible to replace twice a day jabs to control type 2 diabetes with a shot given just once a week, research suggests.
Scientists found a new formulation of the drug exenatide gave better control of blood sugar levels than the current twice-daily regimen.
The University of Toronto finding, published in The Lancet, could have a big impact on diabetes management.
But experts said research was needed to confirm the findings.

The first guitar torched on stage by Jimi Hendrix has been sold for £280,000 a London auction of rock memorabilia.
The Fender Stratocaster, burnt at the end of a show in north London in 1967, was bought by collector Daniel Boucher from Boston, Massachusetts.
“It was something I wanted to have,” he told the BBC after the sale. “I decided I would go the distance to get it.”
The instrument was only recovered from a garage last year and still bears the scorch marks of Hendrix’s performance.

The rise in antibiotic resistance is reaching worrying levels, experts say.
The Health Protection Agency said while the focus on infections such as MRSA had been largely successful, new trends in other bugs were now posing a threat.
For instance, 12% of bloodstream infections by E. coli in England, Wales and Northern Ireland now show some signs of not responding to drugs.

A jogger has been attacked by a kangaroo on the outskirts of Australia’s second largest city.
The man suffered a gash on his head and claw scratches to his chest, arms and hands, Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman Christine Paterson said
He was attacked as he apparently ran between a male and female kangaroo near his home at an outer suburb of Melbourne.
Staff at an RSPCA wildlife centre have been enjoying a rare treat – nursing back to health a baby
The unusual young female was admitted to the Stapeley Grange centre in Cheshire in late July after being found in a poorly state by a member of the public in Gobowen, Shropshire.
Believed to be only a few months old, she weighed only 110g when she was brought in, underweight for a typical hedgehog of that age.

There is new hope for people suffering from severe facial disfigurement after doctors performed a successful face transplant on a Chinese man.
The 30-year-old man suffered horrific injuries when he was attacked by a bear in 2004.
During an 18-hour operation, doctors re-connected arteries, veins and nerves, and repaired his nose, upper lip and sinuses.
