The MRI scan looks for low levels of the chemical glycosaminogycan, which helps cartilage in joints hold the water that makes it tough and elastic.

New York University researchers told the American Chemical Society conference early diagnosis could reduce the need for surgery later in life.

christinaapplegate.jpegHollywood star Christina Applegate says she is free of cancer after having both breasts removed to combat the disease.

Ms Applegate, 36, who revealed publicly just weeks ago that she had breast cancer, said the double mastectomy had been performed a month after her diagnosis.

She told Good Morning America: “I didn’t want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything.

“I just wanted to kind of get rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made and it was a tough one.”

Yvonne Allen, 28, of Halewood, Liverpool, was sentenced to six months in prison, thanks to evidence captured on a camera placed in the eye socket of the cuddly toy.

Emma Sampson and her father Robert put the plan into action after his mother Thelma noticed £40 had gone missing from her purse.

The family devised a scheme to try and discover who was stealing from the 75-year-old, who has end stage leukaemia.

Wearing a £52 dress bought on eBay, the radiant bride looked a million dollars and said she felt “like a princess”. The groom hired a suit for £90.

‘Dead’ Man Wakes Up In Morgue

pilgrims.jpgDoctors who were about to do a post-mortem on a man they thought had died in a stampede that killed 150 people were astonished when he woke up and started talking.

Mange Ram lost consciousness in the stampede triggered by rumours of a landslide that caused panic among thousands of pilgrims climbing a steep mountain path.

The 19-year-old told the Times of India newspaper he awoke in a hospital morgue after Sunday’s tragedy at the Naina Devi shrine in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh.

tut.jpgDNA tests are to be conducted on the mummified remains of two stillborn children found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, Egyptian officials say.

Egypt’s chief archaeologist hopes the tests will confirm whether they were the offspring of the boy pharaoh.

It is also hoped the tests will clarify whether the children’s grandmother was the famously-beautiful queen Nefertiti.

They were found in the Luxor tomb of the boy king, who died over 3,000 years ago, by explorer Howard Carter in 1922.
